Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about how PoolTechy helps pool service contractors manage routes, billing, technicians, and customer relationships.
What is PoolTechy?
PoolTechy is your pool service business in your pocket. We help contractors manage every aspect of their pool cleaning and service operation.
Is PoolTechy a lead-generating service?
No. PoolTechy is the opposite of a traditional lead-generation service. We promote contractors free of charge and bring customers to you instead of selling leads that you have to chase. You only pay a fee to PoolTechy when a customer pays you through the app.
Can any customer see my public offers on PoolTechy?
Yes. Public offers are meant to be discovered and purchased. Your PoolTechy offers are indexed by Google and can appear in search results at no additional cost. We only charge a fee when customers purchase your offers through the app.
Is PoolTechy incentivized to promote contractors who charge the lowest amount?
No. We are incentivized to promote high-quality contractors who charge appropriately for their work. Our model is based on a small percentage of billable work, so we benefit when contractors charge what the market will bear rather than racing to the bottom.
Can some offers be private?
Yes. You can create private offers that only you can see and add to established customers. You can set up a private offer by adding a new customer or when a customer first requests a quote from you. When that happens, the customer moves to your roster even if they were previously on another contractor’s roster.
Can a customer switch service providers on PoolTechy?
Yes, but it’s not something we actively promote once a customer already has service. Customers would need to go looking for a new provider. We focus on helping you keep customers, not encouraging them to leave.
How does a pool owner switch contractors?
A pool owner can switch contractors by purchasing an offer or submitting a request for quote to the new contractor.
Does PoolTechy charge a monthly subscription?
No. There are no monthly subscription fees. We charge a small fee for invoices and service records on billable pools only.
Does PoolTechy charge a fee per billable pool added?
No. PoolTechy charges per invoice and for billable service records. If a pool does not have any invoices or billable service records, there is no fee associated with that pool.
Does the customer have to pay through the app?
Yes, if they want to receive a service record. No, if they don't care about a service record.
Can I use PoolTechy for customers who pay cash and don't want a service record?
Yes. PoolTechy allows you to add Non Billable pools that don't take payment through the app and also do not receive a service record.
Is there a fee for customers who pay cash?
No. PoolTechy allows you to add Non Billable pools that don't take payment through the app free of charge.
Is PoolTechy expensive compared to other pool apps?
No. PoolTechy is one of the most affordable ways for pool pros to manage their business and accept digital payments.
How does PoolTechy make money?
PoolTechy adds a small platform fee on top of Stripe’s merchant fee.
Are merchant fees included in the price?
Yes. The price we list includes all merchant fees. If you are doing digital payments with another app, and paying separate merchant fees, you are paying too much.
How much does PoolTechy cost?
Manual invoices
— ACH: 0.89% + $1 per invoice
— Card: 2.99% + $1 per invoice
Auto (monthly) invoices
— ACH: 0.89% + 30¢ per visit
— Card: 2.99% + 30¢ per visit
If I have 50 pools on ACH auto-pay at $40 per visit, how much will PoolTechy cost with merchant fees?
— $2.64 per month per pool (merchant fees included)
— $132 per month for all 50 pools (merchant fees included)
Breakdown:
— 0.89% × $40.00 = $0.36 (percent fee per visit)
— $0.30 + $0.36 = $0.66 (constant + percent fee per visit)
— $0.66 × 4 visits per month = $2.64 (fee per pool per month)
— $2.64 × 50 pools = $132 per month (includes merchant fee)
To reduce this fee:
Contractors have the option to include a Convenience Fee between $0.00 and $6.00 potentially reducing the cost of using PoolTechy to $0.00.
Can I reduce my platform fee by charging a convenience fee?
Yes. In most cases you can offset all or part of your cost by adding a convenience fee to your offers.
Can PoolTechy help me convert leads faster?
Yes. If you have a customer’s email address and they are not currently getting service from another contractor on PoolTechy, your customer is only a few taps away from setting up autopay for your offers. This makes closing new business much faster.
Why can’t I add a customer that was already added on PoolTechy?
If you can’t add a customer, it means another contractor already established service with them first. The customer would need to request one of your public offers through the app before you can manage their service.
Can another contractor steal my customers through the app?
No. We don’t allow contractors to steal or poach customers from each other via the app—only the customer or the active contractor can switch providers once active service is established.
Can I sell my route if my customers are on PoolTechy?
Absolutely, and we don’t charge a broker fee. PoolTechy provides a Service Transfer feature so you can transfer customers to the contractor you choose. We help facilitate the customer handover, reducing risk for everyone involved.
Can I transfer a route to one of my technicians who is starting their own company?
Yes. Any user with a business can become a contractor in PoolTechy and receive service transfers.
When transferring customers to another contractor, what happens if the customer does not accept the new offer?
Both the sending and receiving contractors can see which customers have approved a transfer. Customers always have the option to stay with their current contractor and not accept the new offer.
Why doesn’t PoolTechy charge a broker fee for transferring customers?
We’d rather see more contractors and paying customers using PoolTechy than charge a one-time broker fee. Our goal is to keep healthy service relationships on the platform, even when routes change hands.
Can I add technicians in PoolTechy?
Yes. You can add technicians, set a commission rate for each, and assign them to routes so you always know who is responsible for which pools.
Can I pay technicians a commission per pool?
Yes. You can pay each technician a percentage commission per pool or per billable visit, and manage those payouts directly through PoolTechy.
Can I pay technicians a flat amount per pool?
Not currently, but it’s on our roadmap. Flat per-pool payouts are coming soon as we expand technician compensation options.
